Program description

Adults who attend the community center generally did not have the opportunity to complete secondary education, many of them were forced to start working at an early age and never returned to resume their classes.
Our goal is to provide tools so they can get better jobs and so that they set a good example of the importance of education for their children. For this reason, the community center began operating a computer center.
Volunteers are needed to help teach, as teachers reach only available to coordinate classes.

In addition, there are practice days where students can use the computers for free and the volunteers are there to help them with their inquiries.

Ben - USA

I was glad I worked in a community center that focused on social and political issues and worked to empower all members of the surrounding neighborhood. I come here to learn about what the left side and governments of South America are doing for the people and the role that citizens play in these movements and I felt my experience volunteering thought me a lot concerning these issues.

Availability

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon.

Local coordination

Daniel, the computer teacher will be your guide.

Key information

Note that adults want to learn, but above all "feel they can do it." The goal is always to provide tools to improve the quality of life, guide them, but also teach them to communicate better and have confidence in themselves. Trying to bond and enjoy the experience, after all, is the most important thing.

Location and first day

It is located in the neighborhood of La Boca, a community center that has activities and workshops for education and recreation. It is only 30 minutes away from the Volunteers House by bus. The first day, the volunteer will have a tour around the community center and meet each area and the 80 plus people working there.
