Program description

Psychotherapeutic practice is not an area that volunteers can attend, and that, for reasons of secrecy and to open intimate matters with strangers, is not appropriate or beneficial for patients (who have a variable time of treatment).

Bear in mind that in the field of psychology, one of the tools of the treatments is the psychologist-patient relationship with a prior confidentiality of patients.

Thus, it is very difficult to give the volunteer the opportunity to be part of a session. Instead, they will be asked to participate in a first interview (with a new patient-consultant). However, it depends on the number of claims of consultants and scheduling issues for the professionals to coordinate interviews with the volunteers.

David- Canada

My experience taught me a lot about myself and my ability to overcome barriers such as language and still be successful in engaging the people in many activities, and helping share a sense of hope with them.

Availability

Working hours will be evaluated by each volunteer and coordinator. Available all year-round.

Local coordination

Yanina, BA in psychology, is the local coordinator. She will work with the volunteer, providing the tools and explanations necessary for the fulfillment of their practice. The volunteer will have weekly meetings with their coordinator and as many times as they think necessary. The meetings with the analyst will not be patterned in advance, but will be in accordance with the needs assessment and continuity of work.

Key information

The academic level of the volunteer is not as important, since depending on how advanced is the volunteer in their studies, they can be addressed more or less complex issues, although it is important when doing the activities that the group is homogeneous at this point.

Location and first day

This Health Center is located in the suburb of Ramos Mejía. The neighborhood is located on the outskirts of the city of Buenos Aires, but is easily accessible by public transport, no more than 40 minutes from downtown. The first day, in addition to meet their coordinator, they will have a tour around the center and will learn the basics of medicine in Argentina.
