Organic garden in a psychiatric hospital

Availability

This project is available all year round. Volunteers can work from Monday to Friday either in the mornings or in the afternoons.

Local coordination

Jorge and Andrea with their knowledge of crops are the coordinators and lead the volunteers and patients in specific activities.In addition, there are psychologists who come to the garden to observe their patients and also collaborate in talks and interactions between the patients and volunteers.

Key information

You need a basic level of Spanish, but what is more important is that you want to learn and practice and make an effort to communicate.You need to be in a good physical condition to garden, kneel or be in uncomfortable positions. You need to be patient and tolerant. You need a basic knowledge of gardening, working in gardens or a big desire to learn and experiment.

Location and first day

The hospital is situated in Barracas, a neighbourhood that borders La Boca, in the southeast of Buenos Aires.Barracas is only 20 minutes from the centre of Buenos Aires and Volunteers House by bus. It is a neighbourhood full of a mix of modest houses, old houses and many hospitals as the area is now home to the biggest hospitals in the city.
